Distribution:  South America: Approuague River basin.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Often found in the company of C. melanistius brevirostris and C. spilurus on sandy bottoms traversed by a strong current (Ref. 27188). Abundant in the backwaters of sandy beaches downstream from rapids; also occurring in creeks with sandy-rocky bottom and some plant debris (Ref. 35381).
