Max. size:  60 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: Australia, Lord Howe Island, Middleton Reef, and Norfolk Island.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits shallow rocky and coral reefs (Ref. 9710); in shallow waters, generally in less than 20 m; usually in small groups with a large male dominating; with the young being collected in tide pools (Ref. 33411). Feeds mainly on gastropods and pelecypods; also on crabs (Ref. 9710).
