Family:  Batrachoididae (Toadfishes), subfamily: Halophryninae
Max. size:  27 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Apparently restricted to the western coast of India from Cochin north at least to the Malabar area. Records from Sri Lanka may be a different species.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 3-3; Dorsal soft rays (total): 20-20; Anal soft rays: 16-16. This species is distinguished by having 2 or more tentacles above the eye (Ref. 89101).
Biology:  Prefers muddy bottoms (Ref. 68964). Caught by handlines and bottom trawls. Sold mostly fresh in markets.
