Family:  Chaenopsidae (Pike-, tube- and flagblennies)
Max. size:  8 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  reef-associated; marine; depth range 3 - 30 m
Distribution:  Eastern Central Pacific: Costa Rica to Colombia and the Galapagos Islands.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Lives in worm tubes on sand and rubble bottoms (Ref. 11482). Males are territorial and vigorously defend their worm tube homes. When courting, the male will assume the S-shape position and dart quickly back and forth from their place of shelter. When threatened, it opens its enormous mouth, which significantly increases its apparent size to the invader (Ref. 28023).
