Distribution:  South America: coastal streams of the Guiana Shield, Orinoco and Amazon River basins.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in rapidly flowing water with a rocky bottom. Like other taxa of the same genus, it is omnivorous and feeds on small fish. Is known to be quarrelsome (Ref. 12225).
