Family:  Argentinidae (Argentines or herring smelts)
Max. size:  37 cm FL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 69 - 700 m
Distribution:  Southwest Pacific: New Zealand and southern Australia.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in offshore waters (Ref. 9258). Reported from depths between 69 m (Ref. 58489) and 600 m (Ref. 9258). New maximum depth range from Ref. 89422.
IUCN Red List Status: Not Evaluated (N.E.) Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
