Environment:  bathydemersal; marine; depth range 100 - 235 m
Distribution:  Western Indian Ocean: Saya de Malha Bank.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 8-8; Dorsal soft rays (total): 31-33; Anal spines: 3-3; Anal soft rays: 29-31. Distinguished by the having the following characters: upper and lower body profiles without pronounced angles, upper anterior profile almost straight; body shape oval, moderately deep; scales with shallow posterior ridge, bearing along the edge short ctenias; head length 2.5 times in SL; mouth slit subvertical; lips thin; descending part of praemaxillare straight; orbit diameter 2.6-2.9 times in HL; gill rakers 18-20; dorsal fin-rays VIII 31-33 and anal fin-rays III 29-31 (Ref. 78445).
