Family:  Diodontidae (Porcupinefishes (burrfishes))
Max. size:  50 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; marine; depth range 40 - 270 m
Distribution:  Indo-West Pacific: temperate Australia, Tasman Sea and New Zealand.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  A deepwater species found on the continental shelf. Capable of inflating its body by sucking in air or water and easily gets entangled in nets (Ref. 9563).

Threat to humans:  harmless
