Remarks Name applied to this species in the early 1800s by the islanders; this species was an important source of protein to the islanders: once a year, for 3-4 days, the myriades swarming along the shorelines (of same lengths) are harvested with fish nets; these are then sun-dried, salted and/or marinated in vinegar with aromatic herbs.
