Remarks As per reference 583, in old Hawaii the name of Halalu (i.e., A-ku-le by syllables) or Hahalalu was used for the intermediate growth stage of this species. The intermediate growth stage would be non-adults of greater than 2 or 3 inches. In old Hawaii the other names of growth stages used in conjunction with this name were Pa'a'a and Akule.
