Remarks | 'blenny' from Latin 'blennius', i.e., a sea fish (Ref. 11978), from Greek 'blennos', i.e., slime, a fish allied to 'kôbios'; 'cloister' originally an enclosed place, i.e., 'close' from Od French 'cloistre', from Latin 'claustrum', i.e., bar, bolt, enclosure; the notion of enclosure led to the word's being applied to a place of religious seclusion such as a monastery or convent, hence a covered walkway within a monastic building (p. 118 in Ref. 11979). |
