Dorsal spines (total): 10; Dorsal soft rays (total): 17; Anal spines: 3; Anal soft rays: 7. Body depth greater than head length, 43-45% SL; pectoral fin 35-37% SL; juveniles (and probably adult females) with black blotch between 7th dorsal spine and 1st dorsal soft ray; adult males yellowish orange; ventral half of body silvery; yellow stripe from eye to end of lower jaw; dorsal and anal fins whitish; tips of soft dorsal rays black. Remarks: 3rd dorsal spine of males prolonged; 3rd soft dorsal ray prolonged.
Found in offshore reefs.
