Etymology: Hemibrycon: Greek, hemi = half + Greek, bryko = to bite (Ref. 45335); quindos: The specific epithet refers to the native Latin American people known as the
Quindos, who once occupied the type locality of this new species. A substantive noun in apposition.

Morphology | Morphometrics
Vertebrae: 39 - 40. Diagnosed from other species of the genus Hemibrycon by having cartilaginous protuberance, rounded on all branched anal fin in males; absence of a fold on the anterior end of maxilla; (vs. maxilla with folding only at posterior end, except in Hemibrycon rafaelense); and 35-40 pored scales in the lateral line (vs. 40-46; except 46-54 in Hemibrycon colombianus). This is similar to Hemibrycon boquiae in having the depressed pectoral-fin falling short of the pelvic-fins origin and in its morphometric and meristic values; the species also differs in the form of the pelvic bone (blunt and osseous in the Hemibrycon quindos, rounded and with cartilage in Hemibrycon boquiae), form of orbitosphenoid (short and wide in Hemibrycon quindos, slender and elongate in Hemibrycon boquiae), and the number of small teeth on the dentary (ten in Hemibrycon quindos, five in Hemibrycon boquiae) (Ref. 83529).
