Eastern Central Atlantic: described from two syntypes caught in a coastal river at Mansoa Point, Guinea Bissau; also recorded in the Niger delta (Nigeria)(Ref. 57291).

Dorsal spines (total): 0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 0; Anal spines: 0; Anal soft rays: 0. Diagnosis: body robust, naked, elongated, cylindrical in front and strongly compressed back, ending in a rather obtuse point; caudal part of body making less than 1/3 of total length; mouth large with well developed lips; conical teeth to the jaws and the palate; eyes small but quite visible, overlaid with skin, situated at the head forward; gill opening reduced to a medio-ventral transversal slit; branchiostegal membrane free from isthmus; 4 branchial arches with well developed branchiae; no paired fins; dorsal and anal fins reduced to a skin fold, rayless, meeting the caudal fin; lateral line present; vertebral count: 80 abdominal and 50 caudal (Ref. 57291). Coloration: adults dark-coloured, nearly black, juveniles clearer (Ref. 57291).
