Etymology: Maylandia: In honour of Hans J. Mayland, German ictiologist (Ref. 45335).
This species is synonym of Maylandia pyrsonotus (Stauffer, Bowers, Kellogg & McKaye, 1997) in Eschmeyer (CofF ver. May 2011: Ref. 86870) following Ciccotto et al. (2011: Ref. 86409). The species page will be removed.
