Morphology | Morphometrics
Distinguished from congeners in Mediterranean basin by having the following combination of characters: 9-13 parr marks in adults; caudal fin slightly emarginate; 20-60 small ocellated spots on flank (smaller than eye), some black, some brownish red (Ref. 59043).
Europe: Corsica, Sardinia, Sicily, Tyrrehenian basin of Italy from Magra drainage southward.
Inhabits streams in hilly areas and lowland in karstic resurgences. Occurs in clear waters around 10-20° C, usually with dense subaquatic vegetation. Feeds mainly on aquatic insects.
