Melanorivulus rubroreticulatus is distinguished from all other members of the M. zygonectes group by its color pattern consisting of caudal fin with broad red bars in males, bars often interconnected to form reticulations and and anal-fin base with short red bars contrasting with intense light blue ground color (Ref. 96663).
