A member of the Astyanax scabripinnis species complex that distinguishes from species outside this complex by having anal fin with 14-18 branched rays and body depth shallow (26.9-29.7% of SL). Differs from other species of the species complex by its shallow body depth (26.9-29.7% SL) and the smaller interorbital width (26.9-30.4% HL) (Ref. 57404). Description: D. 11,9; A. iv-v,15-17; P. i,11-13; V. i,7 (Ref. 57404).
