Diagnosis

Rostrum generally sloping downward with respect to the long axis of the body instead of being horizontal or tilted upward; rostrum length to disk margin length, 2.8-3.7. Ventral surfaces of pectoral and pelvic rays without fleshy pads. Pectoral ray count usually 11. Subopercular lateral line scale count usually 8 (7-9). Vertebral count usually 20, lateral line scale usually 25. Distinguished from parvus by its flatter head (HL 4.3-5.1 to SL) and its larger mouth width of mouth to head depth 1.4 - 1.9 (Ref. 40824).
