Known from Pulau Hantu, Kusu Island, Pulau Jong and Changi (Ref. 129070). Occurs mainly around the southern islands where it inhabits coral reefs. Feeds on zooplankton. Used for Chinese traditional medicine and also dried as curious. This is a popular aquarium pet but difficult to keep in captivity. Stattus of threat: Threatened due to habitat destruction and excessive collecting. Conservation measures include habitat protection and strict policing against illegal collecting. There is a ban imposed in selling wild-caught seashores. Supply for the aquarium trade should come from captive-bred stocks (Ref. 85309). Also Ref. 48635.
