Specimens were collected only from the island of Hawaii, but have been observed from Lanai, Oahu, Maui, and Molokini off Maui. Museum: Hawaii, Kona coast, BPBM 21074 (holotype of G. hawaiiensis, 52.1 cm TL); BPBM 21075 (paratypes). Hawaii, BPBM 29288; AMS I.20104-001
