Type locality, Cape York, Queensland, BMNH 1867.5.13.17 (holotype of Dinematichthys mizolepis, 4.7 cm SL, female) (Ref. 76869). Known from Western Australia to the Northern Territory up to Lady Musgrave Is., Qld. (Ref. 7300, 76869). Also Ref. 34024.
