Recorded from the coastal rivers and estuaries from Tin Can Bay, Qld. to Gippsland, Victoria (Ref. 7300). Known from coastal drainages of south-eastern Australia from the Mary river and Fraser island (Qld) south to Wilson's promontory (Vic) (Ref. 44894). Also recorded from the Nepean, Williams and Manning rivers (Ref. 55670). Introduced to Lake Manchester and Poona Dam, Queensland (Ref. 6071). It has declined severely due to the proliferation of dams, which block access to upstream habitats and prevent spawning cues provided by flooding (Ref. 44894). Also Ref. 7300.
