Etymology: Pygocentrus: Greek, pyge = rump + Greek, kentron = sting (Ref. 45335).
Issue
The genus allocation is uncertain, it could be in Serrasalmus Lacepède, 1803 according to Nico 2001. Please send references or more studies are needed.
