Etymology: Acrossocheilus: Greek, akro = topmost, summit + Greek, krossos = tassel, fringe (Ref. 45335);  multistriatus: Derived from the Latin multi (many) and striatus (bar), in reference to the high number of vertical black bars on the flank as compared with all other barred congeneric species..

背鰭 (合計): 11. Distinguished from all other barred congeners except Acrossocheilus monticola by its unique coloration pattern on the flank consisting of 8-12 vertical dark bars (vs. 5-7). Differs from A. monticola by having the following characters: a well-developed lower lip (vs. poor-developed); with or without a median interruption on lower jaw (vs. with a median interruption which wider than 1/2 mouth width); lower jaw entirely covered (vs. uncovered) by the lower lip; and body depth 22.57%-25.22% SL (vs. 25.64%-32.26% SL) (Ref. 96674).

Inhabits rapid streams with clean, highly oxygenated water, and a boulder/pebble/gravel substrate. Coexists with other fishes which include Acrossocheilus parallens, Opsariichthys bidens, and Zacco platypus (Ref. 96674).
