Etymology: Garra: Name based on a vernacular Indian name (Hamilton, 1822:343, Ref. 1813); a fish living in mud (Ref. 128817);  regressus: The species name regressus, from the Latin 'regress', meaning to go back, is chosen in reference to the regressed rostral cap characteristic of the species (Ref. 58532).

背棘 (總數): 0; 背的軟條 (總數): 10; 臀棘 0; 臀鰭軟條: 8. Diagnosis: This species is unique among African Garra in possession of a small, acutely pointed head, narrow mouth, regressed rostral cap, and a fully exposed upper jaw (Ref. 58532).
這種在非洲 Garra 之中很獨特擁有小又尖銳頭部, 狹窄的嘴, 復原了嘴的無邊帽 , 與一個完全裸露的上頜.(參考文獻 58532) 它是相當細長的而且延長, 與最大的體高位於了背鰭起點的水平.(參考文獻 58532) 兩對的小觸鬚 , 上頜骨通常配對長的.(參考文獻 58532) 背鰭有 iii-7 鰭條; 臀鰭有 iii-5 鰭條, 而且胸鰭有 iv-11 鰭條.(參考文獻 58532) 身體深色的褐色背面, 略微顏色淡的褐色在側線下但是不顯著地如此.(參考文獻 58532) 背鰭與臀鰭深褐色的末梢部地, 較灰白的近端地, 有灰白的, 乳脂色的子銳利的頂端.(參考文獻 58532)
