Etymology: Neolamprologus: Greek, neos = new + Greek,lampros = torch + Greek, lagos = hare (Ref. 45335); devosi: Named in memory of Luc (Tuur) De Vos, friend and colleague, who dedicated so much of his career to expanding our knowledge of the fishes of East and Central Africa (Ref. 50569).

Spine dorsali (totale): 17 - 19; Raggi dorsali molli (totale): 8-9; Spine anali 5-6; Raggi anali molli: 6 - 7; Vertebre: 31 - 32. Caudal fin enlarged, rounded and paddle-shaped (Ref. 50569).
Gut contents included some detritus, freshwater shrimps, ostracods, and soft bodies of snails (Ref. 50569).
