Africa: Niger, Benue, Volta and Senegal rivers (Ref. 2801, 81282), also reported from Cross River but, so far, never found in other coastal basins in West Africa (Ref. 81282, 81639). Also in Lake Chad system (Ref. 2801, 81282, 81639), Nile basin (Ref. 28714), Lake Albert (Ref. 4903) and Lake Turkana basin (Ref. 2801, 52331).

背的軟條 (總數): 11-12; 臀鰭軟條: 12 - 15. Diagnosis: body depth 3.8-5.7x and head length 3.7-4.5x SL; eye diameter 2.8-3.6x head length (Ref. 2940, 81282). Scale formula 5.5-6.5/32-40/3.5(4.5); 12 scales around caudal peduncle; 9-12 anal-fin branched rays (Ref. 2940, 81282, 81639). 8-9 dorsal-fin branched rays; sides plain or with irregular markings; back dark (Ref. 2940, 81282).
幾乎筆直地的背面輪廓。 在第一鰓弓上的鰓耙。 銀色的身體, 沒有顏色的鰭。 背部的: 3 單一的,8-9個分枝。 肛門的: 3 單一的,9-12個分枝。
Affinities: L. guineensis (no. of scales higher).
