পৃষ্ঠীয় কাঁটা (মোট ): 16 - 19; পৃষ্ঠীয় নরম পাখনা দন্ড (মোট ): 8-10; পায়ূ কাঁটা 3; পায়ূর নরম পাখনা্তুন্ড: 6 - 9. Diagnosis: The Moderately sloped head, swollen rostral tip of the neurocranium, isognathous jaws, and the presence of bicuspid teeth in the outer rows of the jaws place this species in Maylandia; the continuation of the vertical bars on the side of fish into the dorsal fin separates this species from M. zebra; the gold highlights on the light blue ground colouration distinguishes this species from M. melabranchion (Ref. 27596).
