Etymology: Diaphus: Greek, dis, dia = through + Greek, physa, phyo = to beget, to have as offspring (Ref. 45335).

Ecología
marino; oceanodromo (Ref. 51243); rango de profundidad 40 - 750 m (Ref. 4479). Subtropical
Eastern Atlantic: 20°N to 15°S, with western limit at about 30°W. Endemic to the Atlantic but two specimens from a stomach of a hake off the La Plata River mouth.

Max length : 4.2 cm SL macho / no sexado; (Ref. 4479)
High-oceanic, mesopelagic species. Found at 275-750 m during the day and at 40-125 m during the night. Sexually mature from about 2.7 cm (Ref. 4479).
