Elongate, voluminous gut; terminal section of gut deflected at slight angle, no acute sigmoid flexure as in late postflexion B. flemingi; head large, deflected ventrad; liver small, recessed anterior to gut; paired dorsal and ventral pigment series; melanophores minute, pigment faint. Pigmentation: Preflexion: paired dorsal series from nape to near notochord tip where the series join; approximately 1 per myomere in dorsal and ventral series; 1 to several ventrolateral to hindbrain; 1 to several on ventral region of pectoral fin base; above and below terminal gut section. Flexion-postflexion: ventral series becomes obscured by hypaxial musculature; fewer in dorsal and ventral series; a patch over hindbrain; faint series on isthmus in some specimens; on finfolds in some specimens. Sequence of fin development: caudal and dorsal and anal, pelvics, pectorals. |
