| Additional Characters | Yolk is colourless and the oil globule is slightly darker. When the embryo is half-way round the yolk melanophores soon form a dense and continuous line along the ventrolateral region from just behind the pectoral fins to within a short distance of the caudal end. There are melanophores in the neck region and the eyes pigment. Bright lemon-yellow chromatophores appear on the sides of the embryo above the dense line of black pigment, and there are melanophores along the dorsal surface of the yolk. The blood circulation over the yolk is well developed before hatching, and chromatophores appear on the sides of the body. The yolk sac and occipital region are covered with a diffuse pale yellow, and a pair of lines of melanophores converge towards the occiput from the posterior lateral part of the yolk sac. |
