Comments: First observed in the Latorica river in Eastern Slovakia in 1998. Within 5 years, it has occupied Latorica, Bodrog and Tisza together with aquatic habitats in their floodplains. Abundant in stagnant or slowly flowing water with aquatic vegetation. Has been implicated in the decrease in populations of native species Umbra krameri, Carassius carassius and Leucaspius delineatus which were abundant in the past through competition for identical habitat requirements.     Ref:
