Comments: Introduced in 1948 and in 1981 in the deep water reservoirs in the dry zone (Minneriya, Parakrama Samudra and Uda Walawe) where they are mostly susceptible to gill net fishing. Population is completely dependent on artificial stocking and is likely to become extinct due to pressure from the fishery and cessation of fresh stocking (Ref. 6028).
