Comments: First introduced in 1910 for experimental purposes, reintroduced in 1965 for experimental ponds, in 1982 released into the Dudley Pringle dam in the Wewe river catchment (Ref. 6465). Also introduced for the control of aquatic vegetation (Ref. 4537). Due to confusion in its taxonomy, there is some doubt that they were the fish introduced in 1910, introductions to Natal at a later date may have been this species but these need further confirmation. May hybridize with the indigenous O. mossambicus of the Wewe catchment (Ref. 6465). Also Ref. 13364.     Ref:  de Moor, I.J. and M.N. Bruton, 1988
