Family:  Sternoptychidae (Marine hatchetfishes), subfamily: Sternoptychinae
Max. size:  8.13 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 366 - 732 m
Distribution:  Western Central Atlantic: Caribbean Sea in the vicinity of the continental slope of South America, and off Puerto Rico. Also in the Gulf of Mexico (Ref. 27768).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-16; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 16-17. Three supraanal photophores, very short temporal spine (Ref. 37473).
Biology:
