Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; brackish; pH range: 7.5 - 8.19999980926514; dH range: 20 - 40, non-migratory
Distribution:  Central and South America: Trinidad to the Amazon River delta.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits mildly brackish water in canals and drainage ditches at the edges of swamps, but does venture far inland (Ref. 11225).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 30 October 2020 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
