Distribution:  Africa: Upper and Lower Niger, the Bénuoé, coastal rivers of Nigeria.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 29-34; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 35-39. Body depth 2.9-3.5 x SL, caudal peduncle depth 18.8-21.6 x SL, base of anal fin 3.1-3.4 x SL. Eye diameter 3.0-3.5 x head length. Body silvery with 1st rays of dorsal darkened and dorsal spot separate from dorsal fin.
Biology:  Affinities: P. bane and P. sauvagii.
