Family:  Loricariidae (Armored catfishes), subfamily: Hypostominae
Max. size:  7 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater
Distribution:  South America: Atlantic coastal drainages from Maroni to Kaw River basins in French Guiana.
Diagnosis:
Biology:  Inhabits stony rivulets (Ref. 6868); has been collected in little forest tributaries (3 to 4 m wide) with shallow depth, rocky bottom, strong current, often with cascades. Likewise, during the dry season, it has been found in a split brook with very little water input, where only 2 species of Rivulus (R. igneus and R. cladophorus were present, thus suggesting that Lithoxus is a pioneer species which is capable of colonizing difficult environments which are nutritionally poor (Ref. 35381).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 19 October 2020 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
