Family:  Danionidae (Danios), subfamily: Chedrinae
Max. size:  34 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater, potamodromous
Distribution:  Africa: Lake Malawi (Nyassa) and upper Shire.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits lake, but some migrate to rivers to breed (Ref. 4967). Also caught using dip nets. Found in shallow water over sandy bottoms. Feeds on usipa, Engraulicypris sardella (Ref. 5595).
