Family:  Leuciscidae (Minnows), subfamily: Pogonichthyinae
Max. size:  7.6 cm TL (male/unsexed); max. reported age: 3 years
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: Mississippi River basin in the USA from southern Minnesota and southeastern South Dakota south to central Missouri and southern Kansas (in Arkansas River drainage).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Inhabits quiet gravel-bottomed and sand-bottomed pools of headwaters and creeks.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 31 July 2012 Ref. (130435)
