Max. size:  8.4 cm TL (male/unsexed); max. reported age: 5 years
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  North America: mountainous area drained by upper Tennessee River drainage in Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee, USA; headwaters of Santee and Savannah rivers in North Carolina.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs in bedrock-bottomed and rubble-bottomed pools of clear, fast headwaters, creeks (Ref. 5723) and streams (Ref. 10294).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 01 March 2012 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
