Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Gymnoscopelinae
Max. size:  14.2 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  pelagic-oceanic; marine; depth range 45 - 1000 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Mediterranean Sea: endemic to the western region.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  High-oceanic, found between 375-1,000 m during the day and between 45-150 m at night. Spawns from winter to spring.
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 12 July 2014 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
