Distribution:  Asia: Amur Liman, Peter the Great Bay and South Sakhalin in Russia.
Diagnosis:  This species differs from M. platycephalus by its relative length of lower jaw, extent of development of postorbital and occipital tubers, color of pectoral fins, shape of free ends of ventral fin rays, and relative length and color of females (Ref. 82587).
Biology:  Enters fresh waters (Ref. 2058).
