Family:  Bathylagidae (Deep-sea smelts)
Max. size:  15 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 25 - 850 m
Distribution:  Eastern Pacific: Center British Columbia (from point data that need verification), Oregon to Gulf of California.
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Abundant in midwater from near surface to 690 m (Ref. 2850). Oviparous, with planktonic eggs and larvae (Ref. 35604).

Threat to humans:  harmless
