Distribution:  South America: tributaries of the upper rio São Francisco and rio Doce basins in Brazil.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal soft rays (total): 9-10; Anal soft rays: 25-30. Can be diagnosed by having the following characters: head depth 18.7-25.0% SL; 6-7 longitudinal scale rows between lateral-line and pelvic-fin origin; 39-46 scales on lateral line; and 21-26 branched anal-fin rays (Ref. 87315).
