Family:  Myctophidae (Lanternfishes), subfamily: Gymnoscopelinae
Max. size:  10 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  bathypelagic; marine; depth range 0 - 2000 m, oceanodromous
Distribution:  Circumglobal in the southern hemisphere in the region of the Subtropical Convergence but with extensions into lower latitudes in eastern boundary currents. In the Southern Ocean, known from 45°10'S, 69°12'E (Ref. 5182). East coast of America between 31°S and 44°S (Ref. 47377).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 16-18; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 21-23
Biology:  High-oceanic, mesopelagic (Ref. 4479, 75154). Found between 100-700 m at night. Sexually mature from about 8.0 cm (Ref. 4479).
