Max. size:  44.2 cm FL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater
Distribution:  Africa: endemic to Lake Tana and its tributaries, Ethiopia (Ref. 35835, 96382, 128753).
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 0-0; Dorsal soft rays (total): 12-15; Anal spines: 0-0; Anal soft rays: 8-8. Rather deep-bodied; head length shorter or equal to body depth; body depth less than 4 times in standard length; ventral fin length less than 1.7 times in head length; eye diameter less than 2.2 times in snout length, less than 2 times in interorbital width; silvery or yellowish.
Biology:  Occurs mainly over rocky substrates, both in shallow and deep water. Mainly piscivore. Smaller specimens also eat considerable amounts of insects (Ref. 35835).
