Family:  Cyprinidae (Minnows or carps), subfamily: Labeoninae
Max. size:  36 cm TL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  benthopelagic; freshwater; pH range: 7; dH range: 12 - 15,
Distribution:  Africa: within the drainage basin of the Nile (Blue, White, Lake Edward) and may be confined to this system (Ref. 1440). It is likely that records from the Congo basin and southern Africa are based on misidentifications (Ref. 1440).
Diagnosis:   
Biology:  Occurs mainly in rocky areas (Ref. 28714, 47905). Feeds on phytobenthos, debris and mud; juveniles may feed on zooplankton (Ref. 28714).
IUCN Red List Status: Least Concern (LC); Date assessed: 31 March 2021 Ref. (130435)
Threat to humans:  harmless
