Family:  Sciaenidae (Drums or croakers)
Max. size:  30 cm SL (male/unsexed)
Environment:  demersal; freshwater; brackish; marine; depth range - 40 m, amphidromous
Distribution:  Indian Ocean: Pakistan eastward to the west coast of the Malay Peninsula.
Diagnosis:  Dorsal spines (total): 11-11; Dorsal soft rays (total): 26-29; Anal spines: 2-2; Anal soft rays: 7-7
Biology:  Found in inshore waters. Enters estuaries (Ref. 4833). Feeds on small fishes and invertebrates. Sold fresh and dried-salted in markets.

Threat to humans:  harmless
